First Intermediate Period Placemarks:

The First Intermediate period (2160-2055 BC) is a period in which the central state ceased to exist.
While the central state’s power decreased, local and provincial (nomes) power and communities thrived.
In what is usually seen as a period of crisis great monuments were no longer build.

The 9th and 10th dynasty consisted of rulers from Herakleopolis.
During the 11th dynasty Egypt had fallen apart in two regions with rulers from Herakleopolis and those from Thebes ruling part of the country.
Finally Pharaoh Mentuhotep II reunited the country and with him The Middle Kingdom started (dynasty 12).

Though great monuments were no longer build, social diversity lead to great cultural diversity on local and provincial levels. But for this website it’s only the larger monuments and buildings that are visible through Google Earth.

Some area’s of interest regarding the First Intermediate Period are:
Herakleopolis, and the Theban El-Tarif Nercopolis with the tombs of the Kings from the 11th dynasty.

I haven’t been able to spot these tombs through Google Earth though.
